Where it all began

Many years ago, long before the turn of the  century I had the opportunity to own a small spot of land where I could raise chickens and a really nice garden. I fell in love with the lifestyle. The land was not  the best location  and some of the neighbors were pretty scary. But I was hooked. The health benefits of  breathing the fresh air, growing our own food and making everything from scratch was obvious. But alas all good things must come to an end. To be able to be successful at owning a hobby farm or small homestead it really requires that all involved actually want to be involved.  The kids and I spent the next 20 years gardening in the backyard, scrimping and saving and working toward the day that we could have a little farm again. Enter Don.  We spent 8 years working for the day that we would be able to move out of the city and to a place to build a dream. In 2007 we were able to buy just over 4 acres on the eastern plains of Colorado, and in 2012 we moved the house  onto the land. This is how the place looked when we bought it. There have been many changes since then.
